"ANANTA: the enchanting weave" is a pioneering event being organized by SABAH Nepal in Kathmandu on October 21-22, 2011. In order to celebrate "First Home Based Workers' Day" which falls on 20th of October, SABAH Nepal hopes to exhibit products made by SABAH members from all eight countries of South Asia. It will be a two-day event in which modern designs will blend with rural raw materials. Dhaka will be used innovatively in designs by British designer; fabric made from allo will be used in the making of coats by French designer; accessories will be made from allo, dhaka and raadi by Japanese designer and other natural fibers like silk, bamboo, cotton, banana and hemp will be incorporated in stylish wearable designs by Nepali designers. All fashion designers supporting the event will be exclusively harnessing the products made by women home based workers. Women's movement, civil society and public personalities have come together for this noble cause to combat feminization of poverty.
The major thrust of SABAH is to build a model for women's economic empowerment by enabling them to become self reliant through sustainable livelihood. To accomplish this, additional endeavors are being undertaken to optimally utilize the available natural resources and indigenous skills for conversion into innovative products. SABAH Nepal currently has membership strength of over 700 and has managed to enhance their existing skills by giving over 600 trainings since its inception in 2009. In the process of gradual institutional growth, SABAH Nepal envisions a target of reaching out to additional 2000 members/shareholders, and approximately 11,000 beneficiaries by 2014.
In short, this two-day event will emphasize on a “Fashion Show for a Cause” where the producers themselves, the professional models, celebrities & women’s movement will showcase the products made by home based workers. The second day will be composed of Buyer Seller Meet and a regional exhibition showcasing products from all the SABAHs of South Asia. Thus, “ANANTA: the enchanting weave” is SABAH Nepal's unique effort to weave a colorful tapestry of South Asia - to interlace innovation and creativity, and simultaneously showcase the strength, cohesive SAARC spirit, vision, solidarity as well as interdependency of South Asian women. The event will also mark the launch of SABAH’s common brand Made in SAARC by SABAH. SABAH Nepal looks forward for support, encouragement and networking of all direct and indirect stakeholders for ANANTA’s success.
